    Sottilde doesn't like me

I'm a member of the Thieves guild and Fighters guild. On my quest to retrieve the code book from Sottilde, i've talked her up to a 100/100 (like scale or whatever it is) and she still won't give me the damn book. She just says, you have to decide where your loyalties lie. Does she mean I need to quit the thieves guild before she'll give me the book?

Thanks in advance - Have Fun

Maybe you can temporarliy expelled from the thieve's guild for a bit, then try it.
You can do this by attacking/stealing/killing or something else a thief.
    Then make amends.

I dunno much about fighter's guild quests though, sorry.

    my brother had this problem....

you can edit her so that she sells books, and just buy the codebook off of her (it's only 1 gold)

if you don't know how to do that, pm me.
Indecision may or may not be my problem.

I hear it's pretty easy to steal it from her; no idea if it's true or not, but it's worth a shot (especially give that you're a thief...)

How do you steal from people on the xbox version? Haven't quite figured that part out yet? When I sneak up on someone, should I take off my boots. With my boots on, when I sneak around I still make a little thud noise every step. I tried killing her but everyone in the room attacks me and then I die and dieing is bad and pisses me off.

Thanks for your help all. . .

    Have fun

    1) Take off your boots (the heavier your boots, the less sneaky you can be)
    2) Run up behind her so that when she gives her "Hello, there!" speech she'll be facing away from the door. (You may also need to do this to the nearby Bosmer, so he faces away from her)
    3) When she's done speaking, walk around behind her, hold down sneak, "action" her, and take the code book. Make sure to hold down the sneak button the entire time, though.

Note: Even at 100% sneak, with all stats at either mid-90's or 100, and with a 100% chameleon, I still got caught sometimes. Be sure to save 1st. At last resort, you can indeed kill her... but don't just hack at her. Taunt her or use "Frenzy Humanoid" to make her attack you; then noone should join in.

Yeah, I picked her pocket to get the book from her, but I was already quite high level by then, so my sneak skill was very good. You might also see if you can get some chameleon spells/scrolls/potions/what have you to also help you out while you're trying to pick her pocket.

To pick her pocket, basically you need to be in sneak mode, then "use" her, using whatever button you would normally use to initiate conversation (I dunno what that is on the X-Box..).

If your skills are high enough, you should be able to do it without being noticed. If not, then they'll all attack you anyway.

How about that Shadow potion? Does that work well mixed with the chameleon or invisibility scroll?

Hmm.. the "Shadow"-type potions have the Chameleon spell effect, so yup, they'd be cumulative with other Chameleon spell effects. (Invisibility isn't cumulative with Chameleon)

If you pick her pocket cleanly, she still "knows" you stole it, according to her dialogue thread (which strikes me as sloppy writing/coding). But she doesn't scream bloody murder and, oddly, her Attitude towards you doesn't go down at all.

But she won't take the book back (I figured if there was a way to pick pockets, there must be a way to put things back in pocket too - no such luck). I have yet to try and give it back to her after killing Eleina Nasty-Shorts... just about to do that now... as soon as someone responds to my thread about it...

Would that Telvani Bug Musk help me convince sottilde to give me the book?

  15. #15
Telvanni Bug Musk fortifies your Personality by 40 thus helping your Speechcraft and initial reaction. She still wont hand over the book if you are a member of both guilds though. Just do some more TG quests and you should be able to skip that particular problem.

Hmm.. I think I remember seeing somewhere that depending on your pickpocket skill (I think that might be your "security" skill, but I don't remember for sure.. Foysythe?), you get access to different random items when you use your pickpocket skill. I know when I did it, the code book appeared in her inventory the first time and I was able to grab it. But I believe that if you try multiple times (without getting caught of course), it will come up eventually. And I don't think you ever get access to the NPC's full inventory via that method, like you would from just looting a corpse.

Or... you could Frenzy/Taunt her into attacking you, then use Hand to hand to knock her out, take the book off from her, and run away. That way you wont actually kill her. She'll still be pissed at you, but i'm sure you'll get over it.

Hanse: Yup, 'tis Security; the higher it is, the more 'selection' you have to choose from, though (as you suggested) you never have access to their worn/wielded items via just pick-pocketing. (though there are ways around that... search on here for 'daedric cuirass' if anyone's curious, as one of our nuttier members found a way )

    Primussucks: *laugh* Good point

There is a way without the violence

when I did the Fighters Guild thing ( I am Guild Master now), I was able to talk Sottilde into giving me the book. I used Musk and then if I remember correctly, I intimidated her into giving it to me. Try it. Good luck my young apprentice!!!!!!!

Nate: If you're a member of the Thieves' Guild she won't. The person asking was part of the Thieves' Guild. Enough said?

The hand-to-hand tactic is actually quite effective. One of the Thieves guild quests required me to get the Nerano Manor key. Since I was level 2 I sucked at picking pockets and admiring them to give me the key. Instead I picked Nerano's pockets and failed (Oddly enough, no crime was reported) then practiced my hand-to-hand on him. He really sucks at hand to hand so he didn't hit me the whole time we were at it.

My hand-to-hand went up by 15 points by the time I knocked him out.

I went there recently (I'm now level 24) and he loved me again!

The point of this story is that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time...

    bwahahahahahaha

    good use of that line...
i shoulda thought of that.. cos i just ramble on sometimes...

oh yeah.. and hand to hand is fun... i am at the point where a lot
of npc's just die after one hit of my sword... so i've taken up beating
ppl to death... takes a while but it's highly amusing... i boxed my way
through a whole cave of smugglers.. that took ages...

I don't think you actually have to do all of Eydis Fire-Eye's quests in order to reach the top of the Fighters Guild. I know I didn't do them all before I ended up as the Archmaster of the Fighters Guild. I did that one and one more (I think) but then I started doing the quests from the other Fighter's Guilds and never got back to her.
