I was wondering what happened to some of my DirecTv channels. Thanks for the heads-up. And fwiw; with DirecTv I've been paying literally half of what I was paying for the exact same channels when I had cable (Time Warner).

God dammit. Why couldn't they have taken Fox News and the religious channels? Fuck me raw!

Last week I stayed with some family that had Netflix, and I think the whole time I was there we never took it off... We just watched through one tv show after another, or some movies. I guess that might wear off after you've watched so much of their stock library, but at the time it tempted me to ditch DirectTv altogether...

I was never that big on keeping up with new shows anyway, since there are enough old shows I want to get through still, and I get my news from newspapers anymore anyway.

I've heard that a lot of people are ditching their cable/satellite TV services and going with offerings such as Apple TV (box), Roku (box), Boxee, and even Hulu (as well as Netflix, which is also offered by Apple TV). If prices and crap like Viacom's latest stunt keep escalating it might be worth looking into.

Eh, more reason why I dont bother with TV and havent owned a TV set in line 5 years now (well except the one my roommate put in my room before I moved in, but it's not even plugged in heh). Netflix, official network sites and... other sources... fill my needs.

I love the message DirecTv has posted on the channels owned by Viacom:

'Viacom, who owns this channel, wants you to pay 30% more ($1 billion extra) to get the same networks without any choice. It's unlikely, but Viacom could suspend this channel on July 11. Please see directvpromise.com'

    Take that, Viacom.

Ain't unfettered capitalism grand! Nothing like trusting to the uncertain seas of mankind's greed to keep our economic ships afloat. We can be certain that greed on average is deep and wide, just not certain at all of where the shoals are or what the waves will be like around our own, individual boats.
