Ja ja ja, of course I'm just a spoil sport who doesn't like you to have fun. It's the same retarded comment I heard back when... And you're really just a bunch of leftovers who couldn't find their way to fucking facebook yet without gbm showing you the way. The sooner you leave and let TTLG die or live on without you, the better.

Are you guys done learning Facebook? Is so old that even a 5 year old kid knows about it.
See, I've just called you a bunch of old people.

Kolya old chum, commchat is turning into quiet place with or without people using facebook. I'm concerned about the possible slow death of forums myself, but people like Msledd and Stitch seem to have largely moved on and if using a more modern form of interweb is what's needed to still have them around then so be it.

I might be being optimistic, but I don't see why stronger facebook connections are particularly harmful to TTLG. If anything, it probably more of a half-way house between the IRC chats and the forums where people can dip in when they have some spare time and touch base with other members. (Note - I'm not talking about the group chat app which although fun has a pretty horrendous user interface).

I don't see it as being a replacement for the forums particularly where longer discussions or more permanent threads are justified.

@Chimpy Chompy: I remember when my RL friends went to facebook years ago I told them I wouldn't go there because I had something better. That was TTLG.

@Al_B: It won't happen that way. People who used to have connections on both platforms had them with different groups of people. Now that they have their* ttlg group on facebook laziness will do the rest and they'll adapt their posting habits to the modern interweb.

    *It's actually not yours.

@Chimpy Chompy: If you were going to a distributed social network (eg http://friendica.com) I'd understand, because part of the reason TTLG dies is how it's been run by a small group who couldn't give up control. When they eventually close this site you will lose everything you ever put into TTLG.
Going for a decentralised system would make sense then. But facebook is a step backwards. It may seem fun in the beginning but the more you invest in your relations there the more they got you by your balls. And they are well known by now for turning that screw constantly.

You know I can't hate you because you showed me around on your minecraft server and that was really sweet. Really. So let's part amicably. I'll have to get up early to catch a ferry to the Greek island of Paros, so I'll go to bed now. If TTLG is still here tomorrow we may meet again.

I don't hate you. I just pity you. You must lead a very lonely existence.

So this is about facebook now? The fb group is harmless, while facebook is a money-making venture and does put people's personal information at risk, the fact that people are enjoying themselves right now on the TTLG group is undeniable.

At any rate, I doubt facebook has any incidence on the worry we're still having about the future of the TTLG forums.

As much as no one likes a party pooper, Kolya is probably right. VHS and Betamax were different formats with different strengths and weaknesses. They actually compliment each other! They can co-exist in this crazy ol world. It doesn't always have to be about one thing or another!.
Yeah, but nah actually. Comm chat might do some things better than facebook, but if everyone else is on facebook for most of the stuff, well...

Kolya, most of us have been on Facebook for years, and we've already been interacting there, just now on a TTLG nostalgic forum fan page. As for the insidious Zuckerberg machine, we know the dark side, even those who cry "tinfoil hat," who are really people who want to see things go to shit for society, having fun with their toys as it all goes to hell.

plus many of us are over 35 and sick and fuckin tired of having nicknames and personas and no reality to our online lives.

I didn't instigate shit, but we now have at least 80 old heads connecting on the FB page.

Easier than making a CommChat subforum called "GROWN UP DISCUSSION: n00bs stay out!"

"Facebook page? Naw, don't need one. I got TTLG circa 2006. "
Are you for real? Seriously, do you hear the words coming out of your ... see the words coming out of your ... uh ... well through your fingers through the keys onto the monitor??! Huh, huh, do you see them?!

Do I think the Facebook group will accelerate the emigration from CommChat? Yeah, I do, and I feel a little bad about it. But it's also beside the point. It's like saying that shooting a horse in the head will kill it faster than poisoning it's food; you're soon going to have a dead horse either way.

Given the choice, I'd talk TTLG 2006 over Facebook. But the choice does not exist; it's gone, and it's never coming back. Generalist forums are dead, and we've all discussed our specialist subject as much as we're able. I think Gen Gaming will be around for a while because it offers a certain viewpoint on gaming that is hard to find elsewhere; but Commchat is full of tumbleweeds. Not even that. Tumbleweed left.

Koyla, fwiw there's also a plot to pick you last in kickball. Have you still not figured out that the reason you're not in the imaginary "inner circle" is because nobody wants to listen to you whine like a little girl about everything? Jesus, man. A little objectivity, please. I'm perpetually embarrased for you.

this mostly, although Kolya has some pertinant points regarding fb vs comm chat, but worded in a way that isnt the most tactful.

I'm kind of distracted from the conversation now since this sentnce has tied my mind in knots. I think like the Voynich manuscript or something it quietly holds the secrets of the universe, if only someone can decypher it.

Seriously, kolya, did lost_soul hack into your account? Being critical is one thing, but going off into a frothing-at-the-mouth rant is more than just a tad embarrassing and makes you look like a little kid having a temper tantrum. I like you and appreciate the majority of your posts, but every now and then you do behave like a real dick.

Kolya, please rest assured that (if only for a fleeting moment in time, which - let's face it - is all we ever have) we're having more fun than you could cope with having.

    kthxbye
