Wow, either I'm on a completely different wavelength or maybe I'm misinterpreting this thread?
Is the mocking at least meant in a friendly way?
Because I would think that instead of mocking, you guys would be supporting someone who's going into the Thief universe for the first time. After all, it would be to our benefit to show those game companies that there is still interest in non-FPS games like Thief.
I've just been playing fan missions for a few years and the originals are kinda foggy, so any taffers out there know of a point where he will be forced to use the walk key? Maybe The Sword or Return to the Cathedral? Or will the monkey on crack technique work for the whole series?
Oh man, I replayed RTC today and it was even more undead infested than I remembered it to be. He will die like fifty million times in the Cathedral alone.
spoiler:No one tell him he can permanently kill Haunts and Apparitions
Well, I'll agree that playing Thief on anything but Expert is utterly pointless(and utterly banal)... unless you never played an FPS before in your life, and in that case it's probably a bad place to start with the genre.
I cannot comment on the nephew as my van is still in repairs
Argh, I'm going to rewatch his videos, as I just can't wait for the new ones patiently enough. And I'm not a redo kind of a guy, so this is like... I dunno, fan level? Holy mother of pancakes...
What? Your nephews wouldn't press that quicksave button at random points if you told them to do so? I'm sure that he'd also take a lot of screenshots and quickloads, but at least he wouldn't repeat the stupid mission from the very start about a dozen times, while cursing the developers for not implementing some fucked up saving points autosaves.
Toddler scores 25-33%
Khad scored 0%.
As miserable as Khad might be playing this game - it's still funny to watch.
Really, I'm not here to discuss on the inevitable fact that he sucks in Thief (he does).
I'm just here to laugh all the way about his failures and his cursing.
I look forward to his next videos with more hilarious rants about ladders, locks, guards and his dog.
Not a bad job, Khad - You persistent bastard, you.
Monkey on Crack!
The Guild is next....should be fun![]()
Okay, the F10, F11, F12 buttons aren't in the "customize keybindings" screen of the game. But if I'm supposed to believe that Khad is playing a legit copy of the game, with a proper CD case and stuff, then there was a manual inside. And this is where these keybindings are pointed out.
Suboptimal for a member of the ritalin generation who doesn't believe in reading anything anymore, but the hint was there.
Now, my nephew can't read, but I still think that he'd quicksave more often (as in: about 2 times per second for a while at random points during the course of a mission) than Khad does now, after the quicksave key was pointed out to him. That's referring to the spectacular repetition events in the last of the Bonehoard videos.
Btw, do some of you really need an "" or "
" after about every half of a sentence to get irony? How do you handle it when i.e. Garrett comments with a dry: "That must be her blood. It's still warm. Great.", since there is no "
" or "
" attached to it?
Probably like: "Garrett thinks that it's a good thing to find creepy stuff in the basement. That's because he's so cool that he'd wear sunglasses at night."
*siiiiigh*.
Remember the landlord...
How does playing Splinter Cell mean all I have played for years are just over the shoulder shooters? How is Splinter Cell an over the shoulder shooter? I mean I guess you can shoot looking over his shoulder???
I also remember saying I played games like Diablo 2 and Everquest for years when these games came out. I did not know these were first person shooters!!!!
I demand answers!
Manuals are like directions and a real man doesn't read either.
Wait am I part of the "consoletard" or the Ritalin generation? You guys need to place me in the correct generation okay.
You guys want me to quick save MORE???
I slipped him the good rook ! LMAO
Yes. If you do something like getting out of the trapped room in Bonehoard; dieing two times on the way out, then making it at the 3rd attempt - only to be killed in the next room, so that you have to do the first thing another couple of times until you get it right again. Then I want you to save more.
You're a newbie. You have no idea if there's a sheer cliff around the next corner or what sort of foe is lurking around there. Just save after you've done some sort of progress.

I'd like to say that I'm for anything that opens peoples' eyes to the Thief series - pro reviews, game store sales, LP's, whatever. In my dream world, a sizable proportion of the population plays Thief and makes FM's![]()
Khad already quicksaves much more than I do.
Auto-quicksaving every two seconds would take some of the immersion away for me, I think.
Khad, I really don't care about quicksaving frequency, so you choose your own pace in that regard.
In fact, ignore this thread and go do your own thing. Us venting and moaning about what you do is part of the fun...
There's a difference between saving and loading.
Saving just means that you don't have to redo the entire mission or the entire game in the case that you fall off a ladder or get a Sudden Heart Attack Syndrome (SHAS) for stepping wrongly onto some piece of badly aligned architecture or if some game is very eager to crash. A "quicksave complete" message on top of the screen every couple after some of minutes, or after some progress isn't destroying immersion.
Loading for the tiniest mistake is IMHO how the pro ghosters try to do it, or at least how they did it when they started out playing like that; and that's indeed bad for the immersion.
