I'm not sure how popularity has anything to do with it. It's the same company, with the teams side-by-side. Even if it did share the same engine, the T4 version would need lots of modifying to make it work for Thief's needs, anyway.
Anywho, I can't wait for the new thief.I really hope it'll be true to the story.Biggest fail I can imagine:Garrett with a hidden blade...
please, guys, don't SAY THIS OUT ALOUD, or post .... ANYWHERE !
you don't think how quick some exec takes the "idea" and hires a pack of trained monkeys to realize it. take the worst and most idiotic thing you can imagine: studio/publisher execs will top that. I mean, they advertise the game's feature "last known position", an years-old mechanic about EVERY game with enemy AI already has and now they just visualized it because their customers are apparently brainless two-finger gamers that can only hit mark & execute and need see-through ghosts to explain them an feature usually described in one half sentence during the tutorial.
HEY LOOK: OUR ENEMY TRIES TO SHOOT BACK. THEY EVEN TAKE COVER. THEY SEARCH FOR YOU ONCE THEY LOOSE TRACK. GENIUS !!!!
The German "realize" is different from the English.
Yes, that's what I was pointing out there. The word means the same thing in both languages in that context as well.
To finish the little excursus: In German "realize" only means to transfer something from theory to praxis. However, (some) people confused by globalisation already use it in the English meaning of "understanding something". But honestly this is among the less dangerous threats to language. Not translating computer game/movie titles is worse IMHO. I doubt that they will call Thief IV "Der Meisterdieb IV" in German.
to really finish this little discussion I would read the DUDEN which lists BOTH explanations as VALID and part of german. so don't try to rewrite the german language if it has already been rewritten
Never thought it would be so bad.
Can we now discuss bekommen vs become.
SIX years since I posted! Never dreamed we would get a 4th Thief !!
Was playing TDS for the nth time and thought I'd check TTLG - WOW! What wonderful news!
Lately the German magazines were alluding to the many remaining vacant jobs at Eidos Montréal.
Oh... I see. Looks like Rene took it pretty well, but then he wasn't exactly fired he's just doing something else there.
So T4 not being at E3 is good news?one studio can only take on so many projects at a time, and if Eidos want to take both franchises up a notch, they need to take their time
Well we don't want anyone who's common to know about it.
actually, I imagine there's not much to tell (or rather, that they want to tell).... the game is far from finished, whereas deus ex is much closer. (Am I right?)
Do we have any idea if the development team will be talking to us like Warren did with T3? Does anyone know anyone on the inside?? Are we gonna get screwed out of the game we really want because they're looking at $$ instead of loyalty to the established fan base???
I'm sorry if these questions have been answered, but I haven't been keeping up with the forums lately, I've been really busy.
No offense...it's been over a year....I'm not impatient or anything...but any chance we might ever get updates to what's goin' on with Thief 4 ?
But the new Deus Ex E3 trailer looks freakin' good.
I need to replay TDP...with some good taffee...taffer...taff...geddit ? Oh geez, no matter
But I need some freakin' news on Thief 4 ! This is killing me !
They're still gathering a team up....maybe ?
Lately I was thinking about Thief 4 being a remake of Thief 1:
In one early statement they said that not only the "Thief veterans" will be pleased, but also the "newcomers". If they would do a remake, they could for example fix some levels or redo them entirely. They could also add some more stealth missions (we all know that T1 was more about exploring caves and catacombs and there weren't that many stealth missions).
The newcomers would also be pleased because they could enjoy the story as much as we do without knowing things about T2 or even TDS.
But what I don't want to see is a remake like "Hitman: Contracts" (many old levels with just some new ones thrown together)
Let's just hope for the best.
I understand your apprehension. The image I have in my head is some guys at Eidos thinking "Guys, guys, get this, we have the rights to a franchise that we haven't yet made playable for the confused and bewildered"
