    Good question, one that applies to much of the world for all that. They were pretty big here for some reason (primarily triple J )

    I'm not sure why exactly. I don't really like it. I think it's because art school shock bands are kinda fascinating. I'd heard of them but only really listened because of this article analysing the chick as the evil Lady Ga Ga. Not a bad shout, for all that. I expect the pressure to put her up front more often than not is huge (and they just told Interscope where to stick $1mil US for trying to pop them up. Go figure).
    Ignoring the music, there's this weird nostalgia like I'm watching some electro industrial scare group from 1994. Only if they were from Denmark or something like I thought they would be kind of quaint. But they're Afrikaans so they're genuinely scary.

    I don't know about that Muz. Where is this tosh comparing her to Ga Ga anyway? She only features heavily in about half of the songs, as a foil to the main guy often. She's been at the forefront throughout DA's life and I don't get the impression that she's there for any other reason than it just works with her.

    If you haven't heard Wat Pomp (it's pre-album) give it a go. It's heavy on the Afrikaans, and all the better for it. I don't like this 90% English direction they've taken, Wat Kyk Jy was where it was at. Having said that I do like all of Yolande's bits in Fok Julle Naaires, but the DJ Hi-Tek bit? Pffft. They should have got Jack Parrow back on board. Or just kept DJ Vuilgeboost.

    Oh, and I've been listening to How To Destroy Angels - The Space In Between

    I heard it on the trailer for this Left 4 Dead fan film trailerv=cn52ExijPcI , thought the version here is different.

    Oh it was just some culture blogging attached to some site. I can't even remember now. Gaga has held the tweenies and the intelligencia in thrall since the start because of her self aware, and pretty complex at times, manipulation of image, cultural reference and so forth. They were just pointing out Die Antwoord do the same sort of thing quite often. The Rich Bitch video was the obvious jumping off point, since it's a clear pisstake. But you know what those colour columns in NME and Rollingstone or whatever are like.
    It got me thinking that the nineties seemed to be loaded with confrontational, 'edgy', dare I say it, female performers. Made me wonder where they all got too. But I haven't really been paying attention. (Kolya no doubt knows plenty)

    Yeah the Hi-Tek bit is totally wft. It's even nicely bookended so it can be cut out with ease. The joke is that he's actually gay, I think I read somewhere. Which would be somewhat upsetting for the majority of hip hop. I don't know though.
    Wat Pomp is a cool little track. Probably the only one of theirs I've actually liked so far.

    On other matters, I am kinda obsessed with this track of late: Basis - Mystique
    Warning: contains nasty square wave intrusions.

    (god that L4D film was bad. So many nice toys in use too)

    Can someone clarify: is "DJ Hi-Tek" (the one in that [awesome] Die Antwoord video) the same Hi-Tek that works with Talib Kweli? There's only one Wiki article for Hi-Tek and it doesn't mentioned Die Antwoord at all.

    So, at random: since certain people believe that Halo had mediocre music, I've been trawling through some tracks I had and remembered this one lovely piece that reworks two tracks, one from Marathon and one from Halo, and fuses them into this:



    It's the kind of piece I'd want to use to underscore an action scene in a sophisticated sci-fi action flick, say, the the build-up before it edges towards a climax.

    Since Ducky's thread (a little before actually) I've been exploring music in other languages. For French, my favorite band so far has to be Noir Désir, and for songs probably Le Vent Nous Portera (the wind will carry us).



    But Un Jour En France (A Day in France) is right there too. I realize they're probably oldhat to a lot of people but it was discovery for me.

    Completely in that "I wonder what this button does.." period. The song is pretty full on really, but the video tends to make you forget. Still, gotta love being referenced on 90210. What the hell was that all about? Flat top douches should not be talking about front242.
    I've kinda warmed to the headhunter one now though, because it's at least nicely photographed. (Corbijn did it I think)
    Angel still holds a special place in my heart just as a tune though
