Ah, thanks for the info. Yer, i read the stuff on their site and it was kind of vague. Implied they usually used activemark but i'd never really heard of it before. Yes it's kind of weighing up the bother of faffing with some services account that i will only ever use for one game (probably)
I have other stuff to play at the moment anyway, but from what you guys have said, i will check out commandos somewhere down the line

So, whether boxed or from there, looks like i'll be trying it eventually.

Meh, no Multiplayer ruins that one for me. Zombie Driver is PERFECT for MP, and seriously misses out for not having it.

Oh, and I have Gothic II Gold. I also have a disc ver. of vanilla Gothic II, where the 3rd disc got ruined in a move. I have always wanted a copy of Gothic II without Night of the Raven. Well, Gamergate had it for $2.49!!! Thanks Ladron for the dragon week sale link. I am grateful.

I never really had any inclination to play Gothic 2 without NotR, considering how well they slotted the new content into the game. Though I heard that the English translation of NotR was meant to be awful (I played the German version with fan-made English subs).

    You are so welcome.

I have Zombie Driver also. I played it for a bit a few months ago, applied an update and it got crashy crashy on me. Moved on to the next game and forgot about it. Graphics are slick, theres no depth to the gameplay but I never expected much. Drive n' shoot, pick up stranded survivors. Deliver them to the safehouse etc. etc. Pick up different ammo n' weapons, rockets, machine gun, flamethrower and blow the zombies to hell. I hope the dev has fixed all the update bugs by now.

Yeah, it is just a bit less 'hardcore'. I just wanted to have vanilla, as that is how I first played it, and the Learning Points and whatnot are unaltered. It is a MUCH more difficult game, and that says quite a bit considering the already high difficulty of the vanilla game. Like I said, I have Gold and will continue to play that, I just wanted a copy that gave me the option of playing without the add-on. Some early disc versions of Gold allow for this, but mine doesn't.

And Bioshock 2 is only $10. Not a bad deal!

I love how I had to create an Xbox Live account in order to buy AoE for the PC. But hey, it's $0.10, so I really can't complain.

It's been posted in the other thread so time to discuss:

Just beat Penny Arcade: Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness Ep1 and 2.

Awesome set of games. $3 dollars (FOR BOTH!) until 10 am PST tomorrow.

Now's the time to get them. Maybe if enough people get it, they'll find someone to make Episode 3....

At this price, I strongly recommend it to any platformer fans.

My only problem, albeit a seemingly mild one to most, is the absolutely tiny character. Sorry, it just about ruined all of my interest in the game.

www.zavvi.com has some pretty good deals right now.

    PC versions of:
    Dead Space 2
    Mass Effect 2
    Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition
    Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

are all going for 18 euros right now.

    I nabbed DS2.

edit: this should, of course, have gone in the other bargain deals thread. oops.

I notice that Napoleon: Total War is currently on sale for seven and a half bucks on Steam. I've already recently purchased Rome and Empire and have yet to try them out, so I'm a bit wary about purchasing something that looks like a glorified expansion pack. Could anyone tell me whether it'd be worth it, especially after Rome and Empire?

I have 2 buds that like this series, and both said it was a lesser title and that they were disappointed overall. They are, however, both fired up for Shogun 2.

  16. #291
I thought I'd heard that Napoleon is smaller in scope than Empire (for better or worse), and also that it fixed a bunch of issues that Empire had. But hell, I haven't bought a TW game since Rome, so don't take my word for it.

I will suggest that if you haven't really started on Rome or Empire yet, then buying a third one is a bit mad. By the time you've played your way through those two, you'll probably find Shogun 2 for $7.50 :)

Haha, I agree it is a bit mad, but that's what sales do to you. Thanks for the advice, gunny and Shadowcat, I guess I'll be giving this one a miss.

Honestly, I am glad I could help, as I too am a Steam sale addict. Even shit ass titles will be purchased by me if they are cheap enough. Why? I dunno. If they were in a brick and mortar store I wouldn't even consider it. The allure of cheap Steam shit and that nice long games list tab I guess...

Anyway, I called buddy #1. He said it (Napoleon) was 'neutered' a bit as far as features/options go, was bland (didn't have the scope and wasn't nearly as epic/memorable as some of the previous titles), and was short and had virtually no playerbase/community to speak of.

Hope those points help clarify things a bit, even if they are via a 3rd party (me) who has no exp. with the game firsthand.

If you're looking for one to add to your Total War experience, I'd add Medieval 2 with the Kingdoms campaign added-on. Large scope for beautiful battles, and there's lots of mods available for it as well (am currently working my way through the Stainless Steel mod).

Buncha original Xbox titles going for 800MS points on XBox Marketplace this week, including Black, Burnout 3 and Max Payne 1 & 2. But the one I got my eye on is Stubbs the Zombie. Always wanted to play that one. Tell me folks, does it still hold up today? Is it worth 10 bucks?

edit: although Black certainly looks appealing too.

See my posts in GenGaming on Black. It is incredible. More next-gen than last gen.

Stubbs is fun, it is the Halo engine too. I dunno if it holds up, but it was enjoyable enough and funny.

Yeah I've read you raving about Black.

I think I might actually enjoy that one more, but I've been playing so many shooty actiongames lately that something like Stubbs would be a welcome change. Hmm... I might just get them both.

edit: bought Stubbs. Might get Black later.

Ah, if you've been all shootery lately then I would've gone with Stubbs as well. Enjoy.

direct2drive has their "30 days of deals" going on, with 75% off a different game each day.

Um, shouldn't that be in the main thread, not the discussion thread?
