Yes, it works fine (ddfix, thief_gotcha textures, DarkLoader and the Multiplayer), no issues found yet.

Hi, sorry if the question has already been asked (which is the case, I guess, but searching for a keyword that occurs very frequently in 46 pages is tedious). I'm running DromEd on Vista and I just installed the DDfix, which solved almost all my troubles.
But now I got a problem with game mode. Besides entering game mode very slowly, when I come back to the normal window, it looks like I stay in G-mode resolution (that is to say 800x600). Meaning I can't see a third of the DromEd window and have no other solution than to shut it up (DromEd, not me). Is there any solution to this ?

Set dromed to 640x480 in your user.cfg

    Code:
    edit_screen_depth 16
    edit_screen_size 640,480
Or do you mean that dromed was in 640 x 480 already, but switched to 800x600 upon return to the dromed window?

Man, I just wanted to say that I finally broke down and installed these two apps. I never felt the need to, since I go by the old 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' rule. I can't believe I put it off this long. I can finally run my Thief games in 1280x800 and don't have to have the screen freak out every time I go to a menu or readable (the 640x480 screens).

Thanks to whomever made them, and thanks to those of you who have offerered so much help for them these last few months. Good job to all.

Thanks for your answer Sneaksie, but it looks like it doesn't work.

Or do you mean that dromed was in 640 x 480 already, but switched to 800x600 upon return to the dromed window?
My screen is in 1440x900. The problem is, I think, that once back to the desk, the screen stays in ingame resolution.

I tried 800x600 and 1024x768 but none of those settings worked. So I tried applying the DarkWidescreen patch, didn't work either (told me it couldn't install due to errors). Here's a screenie :

Oh, I see... Hmm.... Can you try "minimizing" dromed and see if your regular resolution returns? Anyway, unfortunately I've not experienced this myself, nor know how to fix it. I hope someone else here can assist you. Oh, one more thing actually. In dromed, can you go to Game> Game Mode Settings and tell me what resolution it is set at? I'm wondering if it has something to do with your widescreen. Perhaps if you set the in-game to match your current res (if it isn't set that way already) it will fix this issue. If not, you may need to figure out how to install widescreen patch first and then see if that fixes the issue.

Ah, that sounds bad. I wonder if it's because of your dromed version. You'd have to go talk to the guy that built dark widescreen, as I'm not knowledgeable enough regarding that system he or she uses.

Patching Dromed isnt something ive done, so I imagine someone will be along shortly to help out with this..

    I tried, didn't worked...

From what I tested, I can say the resolution in user.cfg affects the DromEd window, whereas cam.cfg and ddfix.ini affect game mode. Note that both Cam and DDfix must have the same settings.

    Let's sum it up :

    - I changed user.cfg, cam.cfg and ddfix.ini to a resolution of 1024 x 768. My screen is in 1440x900. With these settings, the ingame resolution is ok, the window is ok, but not the window after going into game mode.

    - With the 3 files in 1440x900, the DromEd window is ok before and after game mode, but game mode doesn't display correctly.

    - With a screen resolution inferior to 1440x900, game mode is ok, but window before g-mode is way too big, and after g-mode too.

There must be some kind of twisted solution here...

I had a similar problem Nightstroll, when I was trying to use a game resolution higher than my desktop resolution. I wanted an ingame resolution of 1600x1200 and a desktop resolution of slightly larger than 1024x768 (so Dromed fills most the screen), but couldn't get it working. What I use now and works fine (Dromed is always same size relative to screen before and after game mode is this:

    • Desktop resolution: 1280x1024
    • Game res in cam.cfg and ddfix.ini: 1280x1024
    • Dromed res in user.cfg: 1024x768

You might try the same but with comparable widescreen resolutions for the first two.

I sometimes get a non-fatal and totally inoffensive critical error, but it works fine now, thanks.

    Greetings,

Found these wonderful files and figured I'd make use of them now that I've got an urge to play through Thief II again. The problem is that neither the DDFIX or DarkWidescreen works for me. DDFIX crashes immediately when I try to start it up (according to readme, it's because the .exe does not match), and the DarkWidescreen fails to apply the tweaks because, again, the .exe is of the wrong size.

It's a clean .exe, installed straight from CD - regular Thief II 1.07 (not premier), patched to 1.18 (not the premier patch) withtout problems, so I have done nothing else to tamper with the thief2.exe. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Use one of the pre-patched .exes linked in the DDFix thread.

  15. #1140
Thank you both. I've got the resolution set and the game starts up fine, but when I start a mission I'm greeted by funky colours and the game crashes after a few seconds. Hmm...

  16. #1141
Make sure that you do actually have DDFix.dll in your Thief 2 folder.

  17. #1142
I do. I managed to catch a message this time: 'the requested screen mode could not be set.'

  18. #1143
Sounds like you skipped a few steps when manually installing DDFix. Double-check the thread that I linked to, but basically you need to enter your desired resolution into both cam.cfg and ddfix.ini.

  19. #1144
I used the pre-patched .exe, and manually changed the resolution in cam.cfg and ddfix.ini to both read 1680 1050. I will look through the thread some more, in case I missed something else. Thank you for your patience and help.

    It's listed under known issues:

"Another known issue, if you have not installed DDfix correctly Thief will sometimes come up displaying corrupt colours, this is because is trying to display a resolution it cant use - check your cam.cfg and ddf.ini files have the same resolution listed."

And yeah, I've checked and double-checked, and in both files I have specified the same resolution (if they don't match, the game won't even start up).

1680x1050 is a non-standard resolution, you'll need to use the widescreen patch to enable it. The widescreen patch should work on your Thief2.exe now that you're using the pre-patched version.

  21. #1146
I was writing a document for a friend to install Thief 2, and get it going.

I wish there was a single installer for Thief 2, which would patch everything as options; ddfix, multiprocessor, patch, widescreen, enhancement patch, and -lgforce, and the popular scripts to run fan missions.

I think that the creator beta of Garretloader is working on some of this; could you both assist him in his endeavor?

    Thank You.

The problem with this is thief 1/2/3 come in different flavors, which is why people are having problems getting ddfix and ws patch to install. So if someone did make an installer it would have to have some of the common files and then pull the rest of the relevant Thief CD - that way getting around the issue of the different flavors...

Now I feel a bit stupid. I thought DDFix had the support for unsupported resolutions built in. This solved it immediately, and now that I have both games running as they should, I can finally play again.

    Thank you.

I'm sure you've all heard about GOG. They always tweak and fix their releases so that they will run on modern configurations, but before they can put Thief up there, they still need to come to some sort of agreement with Eidos.

I was playing around with a generic patcher which would apply DDFix and the widescreen fix to all of the games. The problem was that I was going to include a pre-patched copy of each of the .exe files in case the one being patched was incompatible, which would have made the entire patch about 50mb, which seemed so insane that I gave up on the idea.

  25. #1150
I would not think that 50mb was unreasonable, but it seems that the original files affected could be copied into a backup folder.

I am about as optimistic about Eidos being reasonable with the source code for Thief 2, as am I optimistic about GOG patching it well--not much. I wrote GOG, anyway.

It seems that Thief 2 enjoys a healthy following, with more fan missions than Doom 3 has, and if GOG and Eidos they were going to do something, would not they have done it already?
