Is there a separate ddfix.dll and ddfix.ini for Thief Gold? I think that's why I'm not seeing it in full screen. I tried the one for Thief2 and the game crashed.
I downloaded the patched thief.exe
Not sure if someone has already tried making hires distant arts work but here's what I found out.
Two part distant art with alpha channel textures showed up only one of the textures:

A single distant art with alpha channel texture was fully messed up:

My sky settings in DromEd:

I haven't tried yet with dds files that don't have alpha channel (they won't blend with the sky anyway, so you would have ugly borders visible).

Thief Gold should work with the Fixed exe AND ALL the files from the DDFix 7zip archive.Originally Posted by dickivy
Make sure cam.cfg and ddfix.ini have the same resolution. (Mine is set to 1024x768, Anything greater would not work for me)
Thanks bob_doe_nz, but the problem is I don't have the ddfix.dll or .ini for thief gold. Where can I find it?
Never mind. I finally found it and applied it to my TG directory. Set the resolution, and viola! It works!
Thanks very much for allowing me to continue to play the classic version.

Things are looking good, but I'm still missing fog.
I'm on a laptop with a 8600M GT, with the 169.04 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. I downloaded rivatuner to make sure "fog table emulation" was turned on (since the option doesn't show up anywhere under nvidia's control panel), but still no good.
Is there an earlier/newer driver which is recommended...?
EDIT:
No fog in non-DDfixed Thief 2 either, so it's probably not a DDfix thing.

Are you playing under vista? Because I have fog problems there, too. No idea, why...![]()
Yeah, using Vista. I wish I'd had the option to get XP instead. I do have an older desktop running XP with an ATI Radeon 9250 that I left for my mom and sister to use, so I suppose if they ever get a new PC I can go reclaim that one...
EDIT:
Is there a tweaker program for nvidia cards which specifically has w-fog, z-fog, etc. options? I seem to remember having to adjust those with my ATI card on the desktop, but rivatuner only has the single option for "fog table emulation." I also tried nHancer, but it doesn't have any fog-related options listed.

I really don't want to read through all 31 pages of this thread.
I have a Chaintech GeForce 7300 GT, using NVidia drivers 86.xx. I did try the 169.xx drivers, as it supposedly fixed problems with Aliens vs. Predator.
Well, I then suddenly lose fixed aspect ratio on my Dell WFP 2007, so that everything is stretched to 16:10. Wtf?
I said, "screw it", and went back to my original drivers, and use a patch for AvP Gold that I got from the NVidia forums.
Does this DDFix fix the fog in Thief 2?
Do I need the latest ForceWare?
Sky looks crappy in Thief 2 and I have an AMD dual core, so this would be nice.
There's a lot of "I don't want to read xx pages" going on. May I just draw your attention to the "Search this thread" feature toward the top-right of the screen. If there are too many pages to read, at least do a few searches!
Indeed, I actually read through the whole thread last night, so no excuses!!!![]()
Although in all fairness, perhaps it is time for a new thread, with the current features/status of DDfix in the first post? Most of the discussion in this thread is about various features/fixes/problems which were implemented along the way, so if you jump to any given page it can be a little confusing to get a grasp on what currently is and is not implemented.
Edit: Or just update the first post of this thread to mention that fog is indeed working now (except for me).

Ah yeah, I see it now. It's at the end of the intro paragraph in a parenthetical aside -- should probably also be added to the actual "list of fixes" section for comprehensiveness and clarity.![]()
Moreover, there's a clearly-linked change log on the web site that tells anyone who cares to look at it exactly what's been happening in each new release.
Hi Neil
yes it does fix the fog in T2, no you dont need the latest nvidia driver, no the sky looks good, plus the stars are back. But may I humbly suggest that shadow cat was correct, the search feature would have given you the answers I just have.
Neil, not that it bothers me too much, but the admins of this forum (Digi/Nightwalker) wont tolerate that type of language on here. And as this is my thread, I suggest you edit out the naughty words, many thanks."I don't want to read xx pages" going on. OK fine, never******mind then.

I asked around."Directx6 version or higher not installed. 3d graphics acceleration will be unavailable. graphics performance may be slow. you will be able to play thief only in windowed mode. graphics quality may be poor if your ...
256 colors or fewer.
we strongly recommend installing directx6 or higher to enable fullscreen graphics support."
continue anyway? Yes - No
yes => insert correct CD /DVD (which is inserted)
no = abort
The problem clearly appears on NVIDIA Cards too, mostly for thief 1 wit ddfix.
No solutions found until now.
I finally installed ddfix for the first time and I LOVE IT! Thank you Timeslip!!!
I also am using the new widescreen patch, which works wonderfully, so I have true 1280x800 16:10 view, running with smooth ddfix goodness!
This is running on an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, Catalyst 7.12, with a dual core system laptop (Core Duo I think), T2500 2GHz
"For the Love of the Game"
I have edited/cleaned-up the 1st thread to include the new "Widescreen mod"

I've ran a search on this rather large thread and even skimmed through manually but couldn't find any mention of a slight hitch I've encountered when trying to apply the ddfix "patch" to T2. I've installed the game and applied the normal patch to bring it up to V1.18. Whenever I try to apply the ddfix however, I get a message telling me the patch can't be applied as my version of thief is unrecognised or my version is copy protected and I should try a no cd patch first. Does anyone know why this happens? What version should I patch to for the fix to work?
My apologies on the vagueness of the reported message, I forgot to write it down and I'm nowhere near my gaming comp atm![]()
Try using one of the pre-patched .exe files linked in the first post.
First of all: thanks for BOTH fixes... Lurving SS2 widescreen 1920 x 1200, and the colours being back to normal almost makes me not regret buying a Dell XPS M1730! :-)
Second, I had for some reason set my "compatibility" on Shock2.exe to "Win95/98", and it would not run... just a reminder that if you are having problems, make sure you haven't set Win98 compatibility on Win XP.
Cheers, and thanks again!
