I think Istvan's point is that the GPL allows commercial distribution, so you would not be able to use code which has a "non-commercial only" restriction (i.e. FMOD) in a GPL project.

That is of course assuming you use the GPL for ODE; maybe you have chosen a different licence which forbids commercial distribution.

Ahh. You're right, sorry. I would have to add a not-commercially distributable statement.

Btw: I chose the abbreviation 'OPDE' because 'ODE' already exists - Open Dynamics Engine (Physics lib).

Volca, keep up the great work!

Fantastic work here guys. I only wish I could assist in some way, though I don't see in what sort of capacity I could be helpful.

All of the screenshots are pretty damn exciting, to say the least.

Thanks for offering help. I'll send you an e-mail as soon as I'll have the time to do so (at work now, I'm afraid).

Thanks for the link. For now, I left the decision of the sound library, as this will be hot topic starting with version 0.3, which is the target of all the efforts now.

There are some parts of the project which need to be written/removed to get to 0.3. I'd like to implement some kind of basic gui compatible with the Dark's for example (but mainly the work is about input bindings and per-frame updates handling). I'd also like to create a release of 0.3, but I'll see if this is a good idea or not (Source release will be made for sure, but maybe not a binary one).

Don't worry, this thread seems to live a long life
Don't expect any fantastic news soon, but if there'll be something worth mentioning, we'll let everybody know.

You can subscribe to the thread, as well, but yeah, that won't get the attention of new members. Well, too many members, new or not, don't read the stickied threads, anyway.

As long as the excitement keeps building, and news-worthy progress is being made, or there's a job needing done, stickying this thread won't be necessary.

For your own protection against email spam, I'd recommend you write your email as "name (at) service (dot) pt "or something like that. Bots might be able to read your address here and abuse it. Just a friendly notice.

As I said, it won't get done in a short time. New things are happening all the time, but not something worth mentioning. I'm bit time stressed these days, so progress is slow, but I've got some new members, so hopefully the progress will accelerate. We lack people with a deep Dark Engine knowledge, but there is a lot info lying around so it's ok.

    -EMAIL-REMOVED-

    Thanks

    ( im playing system shock 2 now ) :P
Well, not a thief/SS2 clone. More like an engine capable of running the original game material, with improvements planned.

I've sent you an e-mail some time ago, did you receive it? Please PM me and we can discuss.

(I'd recommend you not to put your e-mail into the discussion like that, you'll easily get spammed)

You can edit you're own post. Look for the Edit button in the upper-right of your post. It's next to "Quote" and "Multi."

But you've quoted the address, so even when he edits his own post to remove it, it'll still be available.

Not sure if you understand what this project is htmlsam. It's not a game, it's an attempt to reverse engineer the Dark Engine, so the old Thief levels can be played on an open sourced engine.
