God knows why, but I watched the reveal event on the intertubes.

* Jay wonders if the kinnect can be hacked for DIY mocap on the cheap.
* It was 60 minutes of impenetrable corporate speak about revolutionary television experiences. Honestly, I've no idea what they were talking about.
* If Microsoft has an aspiration to pimp the X-Box as a Home Theatre Media PC for all the family, I'm not sure branding it with a moniker synonymous for sweary hormone giddy homophobic sexist nerd rage in COD multi-player death matches is the way to do it. (I've just had an idea for a game with fish, by the way).
* Oh look, EA Sports exclusives. How new!
* I fell asleep.

So yeah, it's just another kickstarter currently. Normally I would be weary of it - especially after the miserable "continuations" of JA recently - but apparently the guys from the Bear's Pit (creators of the splendid 1.13 mod) are on board as well.

So, give it a peek if you want JA2 be brought back:

My alpha impressions so far:-
* Combat is fast and fluidic from you one power to the next (unlike Titan Quest's, which is slow and methodical.) Good fun.
* The atmosphere is very grimdark and gothic. Bloody fantastic presentation.
* Great music that contributes greatly to aforementioned presentation. The Matt Ullman influence is heavy and that's a compliment.
* The graphics are awesome when maxed. Again affecting the presentation greatly.

Conclusions thus far:- I'm eager to get home and play some more. If they nail the promised open world and factions system in the final game then it'll probably be a groundbreaking addition to the ARPG sub-genre.

Trials Evolution

Searching the TTLG forums for mentions of Trials Evolution turns up threads like "Finally!!! A black guy in Thief!" and "Burn in hell, Harry Potter". Hilarious as those results are, I'm still somewhat saddened to not find one single mention of the motocross-physics-stunt-game game by RedLynx which recently got ported to PC. I bought it last weekend and I've torn through about most of it's levels since then.

*The Bad (the port)*

I'd heard rumors that it was pretty bad before I played it and sadly I must confirm those rumors. It's not unplayable by any means but there are a host of annoying hiccups which hindered my enjoyment somewhat. First off, it's not a great engine. The highest supported resolution is 1600x900, and there are occasional framerate drops when a lot of physics and particle stuff is going on at once. There also seems to be some problems with the server connection, I haven't managed to get the replays of any other players on the leaderboard to play correctly, and on one level the game delayed my every retry by a few seconds by always uploading my "New Personal Best" score every single time I wiped out even when it was nowhere near my personal best. The game also crashed for me once. And the replay-saving system which uploads your videos to YouTube almost always makes them laggy.

*The Good (the actual game)*

The gameplay fulfills the classic criteria for how a great game should be designed: easy to learn, near-impossible to master. I've had few experiences in gaming recently that have been as humbling as when I sweat blood to earn a Gold medal on a stage, and then afterwards look up replays of how the best players in the world do that same level. The leveldesigns are all top notch as well, with lots of high-concept designs like levels based on Limbo and Inception. Earlier today I played one where parts of the stage kept getting submerged in water so you had to move quickly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgx3bkDZVos

One of the medium tracks, played by someone who knows what he's doing (not me).

A special mention needs to go to the fantastic mock rap-rock songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZyd9ivFMLE) that play during the opening logos every time you start up the game. They're as stupid as they are awesome, and perfectly set the tone for the rest of the Trials experience. :D

SWAT 3

I've been playing this again the past few days, and it's still superb.

Although I just mostly nailed a mission which was crawling with bad guys. We arrested 12, killed 13, and rescued all 6 hostages and a further 3 civilians. One SWAT member down (very early on, so we did most of the mission with four), plus some wounds, but no other serious casualties. I'm pretty sure I collected all weapons, reported everything, and avoided shooting anyone I shouldn't have.

My rating for all that awesomeness? Apparently 62/100. Like hell, I say!

I did shoot one bad guy in the head at close range, but the idiot wouldn't cooperate, and his legs and body armour were proving stubbornly resistant to my pistol (I could have sworn that I loaded FMJ rounds to handle the armour), so I felt that drastic action was justified. I may also have gone full-auto on a bad guy, just to be certain (he had surprised us), which contributed to my needing to switch to the pistol later on. I'm not sure whether overkill or head-shots count against you.

Anyway, those numbers do *not* add up to 62 in my books. Surely being out-numbered by a crazy 5:1 and still kicking ass should count for something :)

REDkit mod tools for The Witcher 2 are GO!

Starting a new thread because no one seems to care about the TW2 thread for some reason, and this deserves attention

There's a sample mod as well :D

EDIT: site's getting hammered, so:

instructions:

***
*REDkit requires a copy of PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, installed on your HDD. The game has to be patched up to version 3.3. Make sure you have downloaded SQLite appropriate for your system or download this one. (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlite-dotnet2/files/SQLite%20for%20ADO.NET%202.0/1.0.66.0/) Right click on the file and run it as an administrator.*

Steam copies of the game will be automatically patched to REDkit (Gamers' Edition). Do not install the REDkit patches downloaded from this website on your Steam copy of the game.

It is recommended that you have the latest version of graphics drivers installed.

If you're using Windows Vista or 7, you should try disabling UAC. To do it follow these instructions. (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off)

Installing the latest updates for your operating system is always a good idea and can also resolve some of your issues. Same thing goes for shutting down or disabling any non-crucial applications running in the background, especially anti-virus software, as they might interfere with your games. Try it and see if it helps.

PC System Requirements

    OS: Windows XP/Vista/7 64-bit
Processor: Quad Core Intel or AMD
RAM: 3 GB Windows XP, 4 GB Windows Vista/7
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 260 1 GB or HD 4850 1 GB
    Hard Drive: 23 GB

Buy The Witcher 2

Download The Witcher 2 patch 3.3

Download latest patch

*Don’t feel like creating a mod? If you would like to play others’ creations, please, make sure your Witcher 2 is updated to Patch 3.3. When it's done follow these steps:*

1. Download the latest patch 3.4 and install it.

2. Create folder called “UserContent” in your Witcher 2 folder in Documents, e.g. *Documents\Witcher 2\UserContent - this is where you will put the downloaded mods. Make sure you have enough space on the partition with My Documents to store mods there.

3. After the mod is downloaded, unzipped and copied into UserContent folder, run userContentManager.exe which can be found in the Witcher2/bin folder. There make sure you have checked the box next to the mod that you would like to launch.

4. You have two options:
4.1 Save and Run - this will save your mod choices and boot the game.
4.2. Save and Exit - this will save your mod choices and exit the User Content Manager.

5. Once you’ve chosen the mod and run the Witcher 2, go to New Game/User Content and select the mod you’d like to play.

Download REDkit (Gamers' Edition)

Download patch 3.4

*Are you a creative type? Let your imagination go wild as you create new Witcher 2 content with REDkit. When it's ready, just upload it!*

1. Make sure The Witcher 2 is updated to patch 3.3.

2. Download all five files on the right side. If your browser warns you against downloading the installation files ignore the warnings. The REDkit installation files downloaded from this website are completely safe.

3. Run TW2EE_REDkit.exe and go through the installation. Remember, install it in The Witcher 2 installation folder, as prompted.

4. At the end of installation, leave the box checked and run REDkit with strings and voiceovers export. It needs to be done before the REDkit is first booted and it may take up to 10 minutes.

*Mesh Importer (3ds Max 2009 & 2013)*

If you plan to create some meshes, we have prepared Mesh Importer that supports 3ds Max 2009 (32bit and 64bit) and 3ds Max 2013 (64bit). With REDkit installed, there are a few files (in your Witcher 2 catalogue) that should be copied into particular folders:

1. Please copy re_exporter.ms to your 3ds Max folder, e.g.

-> ...ds Max VERSION\Scripts\Startup e_exporter.ms

2. Please copy appropriate version of max_re_exporter.dlx to your 3ds Max folder, e.g.

-> ...ds Max VERSION\plugins\max_re_exporter.dlx

In 3ds Max, after you create the mesh, go here. (http://static.cdprojektred.com/redkit/images/re_exporter.jpg)

Installing REDkit (Modders' Edition) downloaded from this website on a Steam copy of the game will break the game's compatibility with Steam (which means no overlay, no Steam cloud, no achievements). It is recommended to either wait for the Steam release of REDkit (Modders' Edition) or to install the free gog.com backup copy of the game and install the REDkit on it: http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

In 3ds Max, after you create the mesh, go here.

A new FPS from MachineGames, formed by the core members of Starbreeze who had founded the studio and worked on Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness 1 (You can read about their inception here (http://www.1up.com/features/starbreeze-secret-history), a great piece of journalism about the history of Starbreeze).

---Quote---
, a new entry in the seminal first-person shooter series heading to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and next-generation consoles during Q4 2013.

The New Order is set in 1960 after the Nazis won World War II. Gamers play as the familiar American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz and are tasked with launching an "impossible counter-offensive" against the Nazi powers that have taken over the world.

Set in Europe, The New Order will have players infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies, while taking control of "super weapons" that the Nazis have used to dominate earth--"and beyond," Bethesda teased.

Powered by CryEngine 3, the triumphant return of Chris Roberts to the gaming and the genre that he helped pioneer, blah, blah. We all probably know the details of Star Citizen (and Squadron 42) by now.

Anyway they're having a week long sale.
http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/the-aurora-revealed/
Basically the last chance for everyone to get the game at a discounted price, lifetime insurance for ships and alpha + beta test access. Sale ends next Saturday.

The flavour text for this game is epic (think Wing Commander 1's manual "Claw Marks"). Have a look at the in-universe fiction sales catalogue for the Aurora ship.

Hanging around a Thief forum for over 10 years I've on occasion heard Thief fans deride the MGS games as being too simplistic and easy, but as I was playing through MGS3 over the past week I'll simply have to conclude that these people have never played a MGS game in their life. In fact I'd say that Thief, with it's fairly straightforward control scheme(at least to anyone who's played a first person game previously) and traditional Good vs Evil storyline is a lot more accessible than the MGS games' convoluted conspiracy theory storylines, and controlschemes that'll require you to play finger-twister on your gamepad to do something simple like "lean right". And then there are the hour-long cutscenes it'll have you sit through, and believe me, you'll sit through them, because noone anywhere has ever played an MGS game just for it's gameplay.

I played the special edition of MGS3 with the proper 3rd person camera, it's about as playable as the series has been so far up to that point. The stealth gameplay is certainly passable, there are moments when I'd go as far as even calling it good. The bossfights are good, as far as bossfights go. The action? Eh, let me put it this way: when the alarms go off you'll be running straight up to every guard you see, doing the same exact judo-throw move on every one of them to knock them out while they pelt you with bullets. Don't worry about the bullets though because Snake is a bulletsponge the likes of which I haven't seen since... I don't even know. There's barely any skill (or fun) involved in the action-side of the gameplay. On top of that, there are a bunch of gameplay systems you need to keep your eyes on, like healing yourself, eating food, and picking out appropriate camoflague. In the end, all those extra layers of complexity just slows the game down and makes it extra tedious. Bossfights are not made more fun by the fact that you have to go through several layers of menus to stitch yourself up every time you get shot.

And the way women are portrayed in this game is... uncomfortable, to say the least. I'm not one to get worked up by portayals of sexy battlenuns or space commando babes whose battlearmor shows too much cleavage to be practical, since usually they're just suppsed to be superficial fantasy-creatures with more looks than personality. But Eva is supposed to be a real person, a hardened survivor who is strong, but also has moments of weakness. So why did the devs feel it was important that she walk around with her tits hanging out (https://www.google.fi/search?q=mgs3+eva&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=sVU&rls=org.mozilla:sv-SE:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=wcx6UbnhGsSh4gSJjoGIBg&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=935) at every opportunity she gets? What is even that? Is it supposed to be sexy? Is it supposed to be a parody of sexyness? And then at the end Boss has to unzip and show cleavage too? What the hell!? Sure you could argue that she has to do so because of IMPORTANT PLOTPOINTS but those claims fly right out the window with all the lingering shots of her cleavage afterwards. I just sat there wishing there was a button for making Snake shout COVER YOURSELF UP FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

Right now it may sound like I'm hating on the MGS games, I'm not. Finishing MGS3 a few hours ago it's easy to see why people love these games. They simply ooze style, substance, and humor. They have more personality than 95% of games out there. What mystifies me though, is that the series is a mainstream success, and not just a cult classic. How is it that the great unwashed masses put up with all the shit these games have you go through? I'm guessing the fact that the latest entry in the series will always push the Playstation system to it's limit has something to do with it. If there's any series out there that can be said to get by largely on it's good looks, it's this one. And when I say good looks I'm not just talking about graphics, the cinematography is stellar as well.

Sooo... in conclusion: 7/10!

What do you guys think of these games?

I have some Xbox games I am looking to clear out of the collection. I also have about 30 games with those godawful GameStop replacement boxes, most w/out manuals. I can elaborate/expand my somewhat vague list if anyone is compelled to assist.

These are all complete and in great shape.

Morrowind (vanilla and GotY both)
Kingdoms Under Fire: Crusaders
Baldur's Hate: Dark Alliance
Warriors
Second Sight
Manhunt
007: Rogue Agent

The ones without orig. cases/manuals are stuff like Stolen, some sports titles, various shooters. I also have like 20+ of those OXM demo disx. (http://www.oxmonline.com/oxm-demo-disc-archive)

So, anyone want to help me price some of this stuff? I have no connection to the used market these days and am out of the loop.

BTW, I will accept offers if any of you I at least halfway know/recognize from the forums here. Simply P.M. me.

Thanks for your help.
